About this lens: The 10mm Switar is a very nice all around use lens. It is small, sharp, and very easy to use. The wide angle and larger depth of field make it easy to use in run and gun situations. This was a standard lens on many Bolex cameras in the past and has the look and feel of 16mm film production.

About this lens: Schneider makes some of the best small format lenses ever made. This particular lens has excellent sharpness and a very flat low distortion feel. This means you can get close to your subjects without getting that wide angle look.

About this lens: Comsicar made a lot of lenses in the 70’s and 80’s with a large range in quality. This 12.5mm lens happens to be a very nice lens. It isn’t crazy sharp like some of the other lenses, but has a very nice feel and is a between the wides and the 25mm “normal” lenses.

About this lens: Canon made a lot of excellent C mount lenses in the 70’s and 80’s. Many of them were zoom lenses, but there were a few prime lenses too. And these are very nice. The 13mm has a very nice field of view. It has a wide feel, but is just on the edge of what many consider wide angle for this format.

About this lens: Carl Zeiss is famous for making amazing lenses. And this 25mm F1.4 is no exception. This lens creates one of the nicest images I have seen come out of our camera. It feels very sharp, but is still flattering to skin. The bokeh is beautiful and textured, and the flares are nice and soft. 25mm is the “normal” field of view for the D16.

About this lens: The most recommended brand in this list is Fujinon for good reason. They make the widest variety of lenses in C-mount and some of the best quality. This f1:0.85 is one of the most useful lenses I have tried. It’s amazing f-stop range allows shooting in conditions you might not even consider with normal lenses. And while it does go a bit soft when you open it all the way up, the footage still is very appealing. 25mm is the “normal” field of view for the D16.

About this lens: The Carl Zeiss 35mm is right in the middle between a normal lens and a portrait lens. It is a good follow the action lens, but a little closer. This lens is heavy, full of glass and metal and feels great. The image is very sharp and clean. Also has very nice lens flares!

About this lens: The 50mm Switar lens is possible my favorite C-mount lens. The image is outstanding, sharp, color is perfect, and the bokeh is to die for. This lens really embodies why 16mm is such an important format. It is unbeatable in price / value comparisons. I have compared this lens to many very expensive lenses and this one comes out on top most of the time. This is a portrait lens, so it isn’t an all around use lens.

About this lens: The 75mm by Fujinon is a telephoto lens. This lens if for your ECU. The Fujinon is crystal clear and very easy to use. The color reproduction leans a little on the cool side, but this isn’t a problem when shooting raw. The lens has large barrel sections and is very easy to use.

The image is amazing, sharp, color is just slightly warm, and the horizon lines are very flat. Use this lens when you need a wide in confined spaces, for cityscapes, and industrial exteriors. This lens comes in Arri B-mount, so you will need either a B-mount to PL adapter ring if you have a PL camera or a B-mount to C-mount adapter if you have a C-mount camera.

About this lens: The 9mm f1.5 from Kinoptik is an excellent lens at an excellent value. Since this lens doesn’t carry a very familar brand name it is often less expensive than some simalar lenses. The 9mm is a great indoor use lens to give you a wide feeling even in tight spaces. And this lens is great for hand held / pistol grip work. This lens comes in Arri B-mount, so you will need either a B-mount to PL adapter ring if you have a PL camera or a B-mount to C-mount adapter if you have a C-mount camera.

About this lens: The 25mm f1.4 by Schneider is the first lens in this series to get to know. It is the go to lens in the middle of the range that gives you a field of view that people call “normal”. This lens is very sharp and flattering to skin. The contrast is just a hair less than some of the other lenses in this series, so again, flattering to people. This lens comes in Arri B-mount, so you will need either a B-mount to PL adapter ring if you have a PL camera or a B-mount to C-mount adapter if you have a C-mount camera.

About this lens: The 28mm f2 by Schneider is a great companion to the 25mm. The slight punch in allows for just a little extra drama, while maintaining a field of view you can still follow action with. The lens is sharp and I find myself noticing the detail in shots taken with this lens. The Bokeh is particularly nice when shooting a medium close up of a person from 5 – 6 feet away and on an f4 – f5.6. This lens comes in Arri B-mount, so you will need either a B-mount to PL adapter ring if you have a PL camera or a B-mount to C-mount adapter if you have a C-mount camera.

About this lens:The 50mm f2 by Schneider is a close up lens that is easier to work with than most. This series of lenses often has “wings” attached to the focus ring. This makes single operator situations much more manageable. This lens is intimate and creates a very nice image. There are probably sharper 50mm lenses out there, but this one has a very cinematic feel. The Bokeh is also just beautiful, soft and expressive. Use this lens for close ups, extreme close ups, and emotional scenes. This lens comes in Arri B-mount, so you will need either a B-mount to PL adapter ring if you have a PL camera or a B-mount to C-mount adapter if you have a C-mount camera.

This lens has a close focus of 5 feet which makes it possible to use the lens for near macro detail shots. This lens is very sharp and detailed. The winged focus ring makes this lens much easier to for single operators. This lens comes in Arri B-mount, so you will need either a B-mount to PL adapter ring if you have a PL camera or a B-mount to C-mount adapter if you have a C-mount camera.

About this lens: The 200mm f5.5 by Schneider is an amazing lens for the price! This is a follow the action from across the street lens. This lens is great for voyeuristic feeling shots. The size of the lens makes it a little difficult to handle handheld so you will most likely need a tripod to use this lens. The close focus is at 7 feet, but still feels macro at that distance. This lens comes in Exakta mount, so you will need an Exakta to C-mount adapter.
