OfflineSince it's come up all over the forum maybe it'd be ideal to centralize the discussion.
This sensor, though similar in size to the D16's chip, claims 100fps at full resolution and artifact free. Maybe a D16HS/"Digital Filmo"?

That is the sensor being used in the BMCC.

OfflineFrame rates come down to processing power and speed of recording media. You have to crop it to lower resolutions for high frame rates. They didn't use the global shutter option either because it lowers frame rates, DR and signal to noise significantly. Some one showed a photo of the BMCC sensor next to a photo of the Fairchild/BAE. They look identical and the specs match up.
BM still seems to be having QC issues with the sensor too, or with their firmware not mapping out hot pixels reliably.

OfflineGot the funny feeling that there is a strong trend towards custom chip designs. That's OK for Nikon and Canon, since they can order thousends of sensors. It is also OK for Red and Arri, since they can ask thousends of dollars for the sensor alone from their customers. But niche products seem to get into problems finding the right sensor. Fiarchild seems to have but this one sensor suitable for an S16 format camera. And the situation seems similar for other manufacturers.

OfflineI'm easy. The "next DB" in my world would be what it is now - but frame rates up to 60p.
I think db could continue to expand the camera offerings to some day include s35 - but in reality they could just continue to improve upon the d16 and slowly build an entire filmmaking family of gear. One that includes more lenses, lights, apps designed to work on set, production related apps that help filmmakers with organization/producing and distribution related things as well.
It seems to me instead of slowly turning into the same type of camera company that sooooo many frustrated discussion board wizards are trying to bully DB into - that DB has it's sights set on doing things differently.
Maybe the next DB shouldn't be a camera. They're already making one.

It is too big for S16. S16 lenses won't cover it. 18mm diameter image circle. It is closer to m4/3 size.

This is exactly how I feel. I am interested in what gets independent films into theaters and what makes it possible for independent filmmakers to make a living making films, while keeping ownership of their work. I feel like there are many many steps to that process, but another camera might not be the most important one. That doesn't mean that a D35 or something like that won't be in development, and if everyone wants one I can say it probably will be, but I personally think their are many other things that could help reach these goals sooner
