I have few batteries which will be great to use with D16 - if there any way to plug them. Will be some adapters provided or are any for sale somewhere on ebay?

First one is Tekkeon MP3450, highly promoted by cheesycam.com. They have many kinds of adapters sold on their website, and you can find battery on ebay for about 100 USD .

And this one http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/12V.....010wt_1180 for 35.97 including international shipping.

Hey Nikita,

Batteries intended for film cameras are probably the best to use.

I used to use these with my Arri BL...

http://www.ecocharge.com/batte....._gp90.html

http://www.ecocharge.com/syste....._ec90.html (IDKY but pricing is missing on this one)

We think the D16 will use around 1amp per hour, so for example a 4 amp hour battery should last around 4 hours.

We will definitely be buying and testing batteries from different suppliers to make sure we can suggest come good options.

Thanks for starting this thread! Joe

Sure they nice, and 109$ is something I can spend on the battery, but 2,5 kilo! It's not something I can attach to the camera with velcro and easily swap, when I'm shooting documentary. I want to keep my camera setup as light and small as possible - camera, microphone, battery and many CF cards in my pocket. Ideally even no EVF, if there is no time/space to attach it.

I still don't get it why the digital bolex won't have swappable batteries. What's wrong with swappable batteries like ikonoskop is doing? Swit batteries when you want a light camera, and the option for external batteries for those who want it.

The design of the digital bolex is not optimized for external batteries. Where do we have to put the external battery?

Carry it on a belt or shoulder strap. Still a common solution for ENG camera ops. Keeps weight off the camera.

Im my opinion swappable batteries are easier and more comfortable. It's also less obtrusive.
Non swappable batteries are nice in an ipods not in a cinema camera. What if internal battery is broken, send it back?

The power consumption is between 2 and 3 times higher than a DSLR. Our through put is 4 times higher, we have 3 times as many processors, our main processor does 3 times the calculations, we run 2 cards and an SSD, 4 times the storage devices, and so on.

A swappable battery solution small enough to fit inside the camera might give you only 20 - 30 mins run time. Our internal battery should last between 3 - 4 hours, twice as long as the BMC.

We are also looking into a swappable battery pistol grip accessory down the road. But it will be much larger that he currently planned pistol grip.

I grew up with battery belts, I still think they are the best option. they don't add weight to the camera, they last all day, they are more reliable and "burn down" less than internal batteries, they have accurate meters built into many of them. They are just really solid time tested solutions.

Do you know any european solutions? I mean not the links from B&H but some German/France brands that can be easily/cheap bought in Europe (ebay.de or something)?

3-4 hours sounds good.

Can the internal battery be recharged from an external battery pack, maybe a higher than 12v pack like 14 or 18v or even a portable solar panel?
I am thinking about off grid charging solutions for camping trips and nature shoots.
3-4 hours shooting time would get me through most shooting days though with judicious power management. I have large batteries for my GL-2 that give about 5-6 hours run time. It is rare to have to change one of these out during a typical day. Most times I only use about half to 2/3's of that capacity.

Yes the internal battery will trickle charge whenever plugged into an external battery!

What about DIY solutions? Like getting a battery holder and 10 AA rechargeable batteries, sealed by simple tape? That would result in 2.7 Ah (LiMH) at 12 V when fully recharged. Costs about 35 Euro, weighs about 300 gram.

AA batteries and tape? Wouldn't it better to use this battery http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/12V.....058wt_1180 and XLR cable?

I highly suggest not going too cheap on the battery. A good battery will last you longer, be more reliable, and just make your life easier :)

Especially the ones with built in meters!

Right! This is something I forgot about!
Although Tekkeon is reliable, not cheap and has meters, so I hope there will be a way to plug it, as I already have one.

Jag35 (www.jag35.com) have what seems to be a good battery pack - does anybody have experiences to share about it and thoughts on how it should perform with the d16?

If you're talking a out this guy...

http://blog.jag35.com/new/prod.....g-battery/

It looks awesome! It doesn't have XLR outputs it seems so it's not perfect, but we have met those guys, maybe we can get them to make a D16 version :)

D16 version would cost 100$ I hope, not the 250?
