Since some people believe that CF will be too expensive or not hold enough footage, may I propose to either make the USB port usable for connecting a SSD provided it is host USB capable, or, if not, to develop a casing for SSDs or other hard drives that can still be connected to the USB port, using the so called "USB on-the-go" capabilities.

Remark: In the course of searching for a solution to the storage problem, I found adapters that allow use of SD cards in CF slots. So, sticking with CF slots is a good idea, imho. However, I found not CF-slot to SATA adapter which would have allowed attaching SSDs to the camera via CF.

The problem with a lot of the adapters for CF to SD is speed. It's not going to be able to write to the SDXC speed capabilities. To use the USB 3.0 as an option for SSD adaption does sound cool though. That's something that shouldn't be that hard to do.

mrbrianmorgan: It appears you are right. And even worse than that, some of those adapters, even claiming SDXC compatibility (at a mere 33 MB/s, Photo"fast" 7300) are not completely new, and hence progress seems slow. I had assumed that the adapter is merely a passive line-to-line adapter, but evidently, there is some electronics in there.

Though the question here is wether a fast SDXC will always be required. The footage apparently is stored to the internal SSD of the DB first, and then transferred to to the CF slot/card. It might hence depend on the length and interspaces of individual takes. Continuous recording will be limited, of course.

addendum: USB3.0 apparently delivers enough power (900 mA) to also power up most 2.5 inch harddisks. Since those will get faster as well, they might be or become a cheaper alternative to SSDs.
